Most of all I love the Wild... wild country where Nature goes about it's business unhindered and without human influence. Fortunately there are still a few amazing places with this characteristic in the southwest U.S., especially in southern Arizona and Sonora. This region is special to me for many reasons including it's incredible diversity of ecosystems, geology, climate, flora, and fauna. Amazingly it seems there are always more remote, unexplored areas on the map!
I was born in northern California, but only a year later my family built a house on some land near the Gila Wilderness in New Mexico, beginning my attachment to the Southwest. After a few years we moved to the banks of Oak Creek in the Verde Valley of central Arizona and at 11 finally settled in Tucson, where I now reside. My family always enjoyed wild nature. We traveled often all over the western U.S., leading my father to write a book about ranching on the West's public lands - Waste of the West: Public Lands Ranching.
From a young age I loved birds and started keeping a life list at around 9 years old. I'm no longer a "lister", at least on paper, but still love birds. My art began around the same time and originated from my interest in birds, but unfortunately has become only a rare hobby the past few years.
I became interested in photography in my late teens. I have taken several thousand slides and occasionally did slide shows for friends and family, but mostly they just sat in boxes never to be looked at. In late 2005 I hesitantly switched to digital and sadly have not used my Canon A-E1 since. I reluctantly admit the advantages of digital photography have prevailed, especially considering how much easier it has become to share them with people. Enough friends have enjoyed my photography that it seemed worthwhile to make this website in an attempt to more easily share it.
